«the immunity from vaccination appears to be much stronger than the immunity from infection, which means that conservative Americans will probably continue to suffer an outsized amount of unnecessary illness and death.»

Good post. No neat answers, lots of stupidity.

«The People’s Liberation Army Navy is churning out ships at a rate not seen since World War II»
Did some more reading after the above article.
China now has the world’s largest Navy in terms of raw ship count, I guess, but it has a different shape from ours.
And I guess we shouldn’t ignore our allies: https://thediplomat.com/2021/04/yes-china-has-the-worlds-largest-navy-that-matters-less-than-you-might-think/
«“We’ve got a Navy that we’ve worn out bombing trucks, weddings and huts in Afghanistan for 20 years,”»
https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2021/04/12/chinas-navy-has-more-ships-than-the-us-does-that-matter/
«Japan, Australia and South Korea all sport robust navies in the region, and the United States is increasingly working to bring India into the fold as that country deals with its own Beijing-related rivalries.
“We just take for granted the incredible network of allies we have around the world,”
(ibid.)
(And then we just dump on them because we think we’re the mighty, mighty exceptional United States and we stand alone.)
I voted (for school board, because, somehow, these elections always seem to go sideways and there’s a guy running who thinks school kids should not learn about systemic racism).
Where’s my social media flair?
«”CBO projects that the Navy will experience maintenance delays throughout the next 30 years because the demand for labor will exceed the shipyards’ supply of it in 25 of the next 30 years”»
Why are we here? Because business wants to get things done as efficiently as possible. “Just-in-time” manufacturing. “Do more with less.” All that garbage. Reminds me of this other thread I stumbled across yesterday:

Seems like you could put a minimum on the holdings before you start taxing, like $10 or $50 mil. So the savings of the teacher or the retail worker are safe.
Elliott Downing (@elliott_downing) Tweeted: Here’s the thing: People like owning stocks specifically because they’re unlike houses. You can sell 2% of your more-valuable-than-when-you-bought-it stock to pay your taxes if you need to, AND you can sell it instantly. Both of those are hard to do with a house. Stupid analogy.
Welp… living in the county but also in the city school district, the only election I can participate in this off-year is the school board election, but there’s a guy running who thinks we should not teach kids about systemic racism, so I’m hauling myself to the polls on or before Election Day.
Despite having just 5.8% sales, over 38% of bug reports come from Linux – https://old.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/qeqn3b/despite_having_just_58_sales_over_38_of_bug/
«Do you know how many of these 400 bug reports were actually platform-specific? 3. Literally only 3 things were problems that came out just on Linux. The rest of them were affecting everyone – the thing is, the Linux community is exceptionally well trained in reporting bugs. That is just the open-source way.»
«And with bug reports from Linux players is just something else. You get all the software/os versions, all the logs, you get core dumps and you get replication steps. Sometimes I got with the player over discord and we quickly iterated a few versions with progressive fixes to isolate the problem. You just don’t get that kind of engagement from anyone else.»
