For about a year now, I've been saying that in Mississippi, Black women are 75 times more likely to die by carrying a pregnancy to term than by having an abortion.
Goodwin provided new statistics.
It's 118.
Black women are 118 times more likely to die by giving birth.
118.

Thinking of somebody I know who’s kind of fringe-y but also not a COMPLETE lunatic who might very well vote Dem down-ballot but now might not vote at all.
There WERE a bunch of sketchy signatures, so the issue was “do we table this for further analysis and discussion, or just vote on it now?”
«[Republican] Tucker moved to vote on certification, rather than table the issue, resulting in the board rejecting the Green Party’s certification.
The state board’s investigation into potential fraud will continue. It’s unclear what avenues the Green Party may now have to appear on the ballot.
Love said the board does not have the statutory authority to extend the July 1 deadline, but a court possibly could. Love said the Green Party’s case had led staff to consider making recommendations for legislative changes to the General Assembly. Among these were the suggestion that it be illegal to pay petition gatherers by signature and requiring petition pages to identify the person gathering the signatures.»
The countries you named have many exceptions, such as poor socioeconomic status of the mother, threat of homelessness, fetal defects, health of mother, rape (of course). They seem to take into consideration family status of minors, such as the threat of abuse.
«In short then, Europe had less permissive policies to abortion only if you consider gestational cut-offs, ignore flexibilities in how those cut-offs operate, and other important aspects of abortion access, such as physical location, intrusive TRAP laws and financial costs. In large part this is because anti-abortion American policymakers who could not ban abortion or alter gestational cut-offs because of Roe spent decades finding ways to restrict abortion on every other dimension they could think of.
Post-Dobbs, the comparison with Europe falls apart completely, except that lots of American women now face the same draconian policies as a tiny number of European women who live in places like Lichenstein.»
If you want to understand *modern* Russian culture, don't read 19th c. aristocrats. They're all dead and their world is dead, too. Read the "Twelve Chairs" and "Golden Calf" instead. Picaresques on Ostap Bender's adventures may be two most influential books of the Russian 20th c pic.twitter.com/sW3YpmTExF
Hey, fellow white people, cough up some coin, plug your laptop into your TV and watch this documentary about some white folks confronting Something Bad in their family history, and being kind of awkward in doing so. It’s actually really good. Great fun for the whole family!
