Noah Smith, Bloomberg economist type, on the conservative lie that public education is a waste of money. (Except he’s polite and calls it a “myth”.)

«There are three basic facts that, taken together, demonstrate that we get pretty good value for our money:

1. Our education system produces generally above-average results.

2. Our education system doesn’t really cost a lot.

3. Spending more on public schools pretty reliably improves outcomes.

Let’s go through the evidence for each of these facts.
