This sort of thing is just ho…gwash. Any fool could pick up any 3GL in a heartbeat. The question “do you know X language?” is really “do you know the ecosystem of X language?” but no one seems to know that. Yes, I know COBOL, how hard could it be? COMPUTE TAKE-HOME-PAY = GROSS-PAY * (1 – FED-TAX-RATE – STATE-TAX-RATE – FICA-RATE). CLOSE FILES. GOBACK.

But the whole VSAM, VTAM, CICS2 ecosystem? They don’t ask about that.

Or is it only idiots (me) who think this is about a programming language?
