Looks like WordPress.com has changed how the Mastodon plug in works

A few days ago, my WP posts stopped coming through to Mastodon, which I guess is when WP deployed a change to how the Mastodon plugin worked? I haven’t really been paying attention and don’t really think I should have to (stupid technology).

So now, on the blog’s Jetpack | Social settings page, you can syndicate to other social media sites, so now my blog posts looks like my regular Mastodon posts (I wonder how long posts will come through? I guess we’ll see.).

POSSE desires

Ya know, I’m starting to be surprised this hasn’t been done yet (maybe it’s hard), but what we really need is an app (or web app) that acts as a front end for composing POSSE posts, and:

  • Gives you various indicators/metrics as you type of the character limits of each of SEVERAL social media apps to which you wish to crosspost;
  • The ability to include multiple links and indicate which one is the most important for those stupid sites that only embed one;
  • Ditto images;
  • Maybe makes it REAL EASY to provide summary slugs w/in character limits for various social media sites;
  • Tagging in a way that meshes with each of several different social media apps….

And probably a bunch of other stuff I can’t think of off the top of my head.

This will be super-cool if it works.

@futurebird lots of good details in the replies that you got, but maybe examples will help?

Excuse the broken images, that’s my fault

On my site I have https://fed.brid.gy/ set up. So When I post on my site and put the link on Twitter/Mastodon, it gets comments/reactions there and adds them to my site. I can then reply to the comment and have it post to social for me.
