This is gonna be interesting. 28-year-old Democratic female political neophyte (I’m guessing) vs. a 52-year-old Republican male former politician (state senator). In a normal year, my money would be on the Republican, but….

I wouldn’t go with the “emotion” explanation; I’d go with “organizational antibodies”. Presumably, she came up with something that runs counter to a pre-conceived notion, and rather than reconsider the notion, the organization comes to the conclusion that she must have done something wrong.
Kind of like “we know women are weak, so if she’s getting better performance out of them, she MUST be abusing them.”
