When I come out my front door on a damp morning, our entire neighborhood, which is kind of a ways out of town (in North Carolina) and about 55 years old, has a tobacco-y sort of aroma. I like to think it’s because the land was under tobacco cultivation for a century or two before getting houses built on it.
The land moves slowly and has a long memory.
