Watched Fences last night

So, I finally got around to seeing Fences. Wow, great movie (and play, presumably — the movie sure did a good job of being play-like).

Also (and here’s my big realization), I had a hard time concentrating on it because I kept expecting violence that never materialized. (Maybe that’s kind of racist of me, I dunno. Just remember: a mile in my moccasins, please. Or a couple of years in my middle school experienc — ok, too much.) That makes me think of kids with “ADHD” (yes, quotes). Sometimes, it’s just hyper-alertness in response to the stress of abuse.

Anyway, I think I’ll have to watch it again, now that I know Something Awful never happens (although it’s got a ton of ugly in it).

The United Methodist Church has appointed a transgender deacon

This part made me chuckle 🙂 :

«Barclay is not in a romantic relationship now, so is not violating the church’s rule that clergy can have sexual relationships only in heterosexual marriages. The church does not have any rule banning transgender clergy.»
