«Only six non-federal police officers have now been convicted of murder in such cases — and four of those were overturned — since 2005, according to data compiled by criminologist and Bowling Green State University professor Phil Stinson.
Stinson, who tracks such cases nationwide, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that to secure a murder conviction against an officer, the facts of a case have to be “so over the top and bizarre” that the officer’s actions cannot be rationally explained.»

Just gave my name in Starbucks as ‘The Lord be with you’. When the barista shouted my ‘name’, half of the customers yelled ‘And also with you!’ and the other half shouted ‘and with your spirit!’ and it was a right ecumenical mess. Try it.
It doesn’t take Warren Buffet to say this, right?

Crazy, crazy times. This is basically a result of Democratic voters buying that “demographics is destiny” argument in 2010 and deciding that, since demographics is destiny and voting is SO inconvenient, they could just sit out the mid-terms. We’ll be seeing the results of that election for an appreciable fraction of this century.

RT @splcenter: We often cast racism and racial resentment as a pathology of the “white working class.”Try “white college educated suburbanites.”
From the article:
«Maybe this problem is inevitable. It’s probably impossible, and definitely inadvisable, for elite schools to aim to admit no students who are susceptible to racist demagoguery, or who stand a good chance of becoming racist demagogues themselves. That would likely result in ideological discrimination, which in turn would worsen institutions’ ideological self-segregation in ways that even liberals and leftists should agree are harmful.
But if nothing else, I hope Kobach can help change our mental image of an American racist, from lazy stereotypes of manual laborers to a Yale-trained lawyer with a PhD, whose racial views come in part from a celebrated Harvard professor. That’s the bigger danger.»

«Who wants to hear about the end of the net neutrality rule, or breaches of the presidential emoluments clause, when we could discuss how many cheeseburgers Mr Trump eats every day? Why dwell on tax breaks for property developers when we could be analysing Melania Trump’s subliminal messaging?»
Periodic reminder that every single vote counts in an environment where victories are by less than 1% of total votes and gerrymandering and voter suppression reduce votes by a handful of percentage points, each.
«In 2010, the DCCC waited until well after Labor Day to launch attack ads against most of their incumbents’ GOP opponents, in part because its strategists believed few voters would remember summertime ads in November. But by late September and October, many GOP nominees had already made defined themselves positively, and the airwaves were crowded with political ads. By then, it was too late for Democrats.
The GOP-aligned Congressional Leadership Fund isn’t making that mistake. The PAC entered July with $71 million on hand and is already unloading blistering attack ads on Democratic nominees in 15 key districts….»
