I should read this. I know I should. But it’s longer than a 7-tweet thread.

I kinda skimmed this, but I think he wants a free and publicly-accessible database of old stuff and current publicly-funded research and court records. Not a terrible idea, actually.

(Us gentiles, too.)
«This is where we come in. The American Orthodox Jewish community — my community — is, understandably, largely self-focused. As easily identifiable Jews and the sector of American Jewry most immediately confronted with challenges regarding anti-Semitic violence, education funding and protection of religious rights, many of us feel we have bigger — or, at least, more immediate — fish to fry than advocating for the freedom of an oppressed people half a planet away. That they are Muslims, and that some of them, even if only a handful, are part of terrorist groups, makes it all the easier to avert our gaze.
We must not. The overwhelming majority of Uighurs, and likely all of those in China’s detention centers, are innocent civilians. It is their ethnicity and religion that make them subversives in the eyes of the Chinese authorities. And, at least to some of us, the image of millions of innocent people being concentrated against their will in camps and mistreated is one that a people characterized by the Talmud as “merciful, modest and charitable” (Yevamot, 79a) cannot ignore.»

The election is closer than you think. Feel free to send in your request for an absentee vote-by-mail ballot any time. (I believe I will.)
«In North Carolina, elections officials will start sending ballots to voters on Sept. 4.»

Have not read the Medium essay (yet), but this thread on Han Chinese anti-blackness (in the US, presumably) is good. Thanks, @jeannette_ng, for surfacing it for me.
I believe ethnocentrism is a universal problem and we are ALL called to resist it (in ourselves, in addition to others).
Frankie Huang (@ourobororoboruo) Tweeted: The thing I really want to emphasize is that the cultural context that contributes to these beliefs are complex, and I reject simply slapping the community with “political and historical illiteracy” as an explanation for why they believe in “the wrong things”. 7/

For the thousandth time, yes.
The Volatile Mermaid (@OhNoSheTwitnt) Tweeted: Every story about a white criminal has some kind of sob story as to why the guy might have did what he did and every story about a black person even when they’re victims is like “He was arrested once for stealing a pack of gum in 1987.” https://t.co/FLFBt3IxtY

Thank you, @ClareMalone and 538. I knew it didn’t start with Nixon’s “southern strategy”. So did LBJ.
