Why the American Right Admires Putin’s Russia

«A truly egalitarian multiracial, pluralistic democracy in which an individual’s status was not determined to a significant degree by race, gender, or religion? I don’t think that’s ever been achieved anywhere. It’s a vision that reactionaries abhor – to them, it would be the end of “Western civilization.” And they are determined to fight back by whatever means necessary.»

Budgets, while everybody’s shouting

Normally I post first on WordPress and then distribute from there, but somebody on Mastodon said something that made me mad, so I posted there first and then shared it to here.

Total federal spending is about $6 tril and total state & local is about $3 tril.

Defense is 13% of federal. Vast majority of state & local is public welfare and education.

Password safes on cloud storage

@bodil@lol.camp 🔗 https://lol.camp/objects/62ef1861-2781-4d1a-9703-9309c626a494 – If you’re seeing the latest LastPass incident and thinking you should get off hosted password managers, I finally got around to this last year after the previous major LastPass incident and I’ve been extremely happy with https://keepassxc.org/ with the password database stored on your file sync tool of choice (I use OneDrive and Syncthing but anything will do, it’s just one heavily encrypted file). Keepass2Android is a better Android client than LastPass’s ever was too.

And if you’re thinking “I’m OK, I’m on 1Password,” well, good luck with that, I’m sure *this* time trusting your passwords to a corporation will work out.
