David Brooks, every liberal’s favorite conservative:
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/14/opinion/identity-groups-politics.html
«In 2024, Kamala Harris did worse among Black voters than Joe Biden did in 2020. She did worse among female voters. She did much worse among Latino voters. She did much worse among young voters.
She did manage to outperform Biden among two groups: affluent people and white voters, especially white men. If there is one sentence that captures the surprising results of this election, it is this one from the sociologist Musa al-Gharbi: “Democrats lost because everyone except for whites moved in the direction of Donald Trump this cycle.”
Going into this campaign, I did not have that one on my bingo card.»
I stopped reading here:
«In both cases her identity grouping came before her individual qualities.»
But that first bit.
Should I even bother typing anything?
No.
I don’t think this is 100% right, but there are some points.

Craziness. Healthcare companies that are simply too big to discipline effectively, so they just keep right on scamming and treat financial penalties as simply another cost of doing business.

The wisdom of the crowds… not.
Need to remember this the next time people start complaining about the economy.
Only… what tags?
Good article.
Was wanting to use the phrase “permission structure” in reference to something else, and here it is.

I keep forgetting how good this guy is.
Time for this again. My absolute, most-favoritetest RSS reader. Freemium, but a subscription is absolutely worth it.
Most sites (including news sites and blogs) have an RSS feed, so you can build your own collection of newspapers to scan every morning, when you no longer trust the New York Times, The Washington Post, or CNN to deliver you useful news.
I tend to organize it into sections by topic category with a leading 3-digit number to affect sort order, but I just added an “080 Daily” folder to supplement my periodic scans of memeorandum.com.

The only nit I have is that you (apparently) have to add (or rename?) folders through the web UI, not the (Android) app.
Ok, update: here’s me going nuts with OPML, editing my exported opml to contain only the “daily” folder. Save this as *.opml and slurp it into your feed-reader, if interested. No guarantees it’ll work properly, but at least it’s got the details in some form other than a screenshot.
Mastodon can’t do code blocks (surprise!); this looks better on my blog.
