I don’t think the impulse to isolationism* will ever go away. I wonder if there are American plutocrats dependent on international trade looking askance at other American plutocrats who aren’t, like the Kochs, Mercers, and Sacklers.

*And isolationism, what is that besides an impulse to separate “us” from “them”? Does that impulse end at our border, leaving us one unified whole within our border? I think not.
